I recommend to visit Gwangju Kimchi Town where Kimchi, a national Korean dish, is the main theme.
01 |Visit
Here, you can have an opportunity to learn everything about Kimchi
There are 3 main spots
First one is Kimchi museum where you can learn the history of Kimchi
Second one is Kimchi HACP factory which has no harmful materials
Last one is Kimchi experience place where you can participate making kimchi and taste
It's clean and surrounded by nature, giving a nice view
First, this is an entrance of Kimchi factory path on the first floor
Through this path, it leads to the first basement of Kimchi HACP factory
In a process of producing Kimchi,
they filter and remove any harmful materials so that buyers can trust
This factory is highly technological where you can see the process of production
Interestingly this building is roundy and there's a place to rest in the middle
You can see how is made by walking around
As you start taking a path,
you can see the process of making Kimchi through the right side window
For your information, each section has a sign with an explaination for the jobs
(When we visited, Kimchi wasn't processed so we didn't get to see making Kimchi :/)
1. A warehouse: only indicated place of origins are stored, preventing the problems
2. A cutting place before cleaning: a place where the cabbages are cut. Automatically, bad leaves got cut off in the machine.
3. A soaking place: cabbages are soaked in the salt water for 24 hours Automatic system controls the concentration of temperatures and salt water to be below 4
4. A cleaning place: cabbages are washed automatically for 3 times and rewashed once by hand
5. A mixing place: washed cabbages are mixed with sauce
6. A wrapping place: a sanitized automatic wrapping system wraps well in a short time
This whole process could be seen through a window on the right side
It would be really interesting to see the whole process of making Kimchi
Second main spot is Gwangju Kimchi display advertisement center on the first floor.
Basically, they advertise the information about Kimchi and Gwangju Kimchi

Gwangju Kimchi is salty and spicy that is made with pepper, pickled clam, and salt
It prevents to go bad due to hot weather
Pickled anchovy, pickled croaker, and pickled cutlass fish intestine are often used.
These pickled seafood tastes the best after fermenting over 2-3 years
A secrete of Gwangju Kimchi is washing the salted cabbages with cold water then putting pickled seafood and peppers when they're not wet
There's a place where you can participate in making Kimchi applied food
You can be a chef and make different kinds of food with Kimchi
such as Kimchi Gimbap, Kimchi cookie, etc.
Before you make, you need to wash your hands right?
Right next to it, there's a sink you can wash your hands
You can see all different kinds of Kimchi models
I learned that there are so MANY kinds of Kimchi!
In the middle of a advertisement center, there are seats as well
It would be nice to take a break and get some sun
There's also a flooring where you can chill
When we visites, we saw many families
They look like having fun chatting and eating food
Also, there's a nursing room if you go inside more
A water purifier and brochures are provided.
A brochure could be useful as you tour through Kimchi Town
And the last main spot is Kimchi museum on the second floor
Kimchi museum has a remains of traditional food
Also, it has a history of Kimchi, beneficial effects of Kimchi, Paldo Kimchi, Kimchi videos, Kimchi activities, etc.
It opens from 9:30 to 18:00 and it's free!
Also, there's a tourist guide if you needed

Kimchi museum is basically divided into six: welcoming, history of Kimchi, Kimchi ingredients, participating, studying Kimchi, and fermented food

Did you know all types of Kimchi taste different widely by region?
For example,
In Seoul, Gyeong-gi: tastes not so salty nor so blend, using blended pickled soup
In Chungcheong-do: tastes blend, using other ingredients too
In Gyeongsang-do: spicy and salty tastes, using lots of seafood, pepper, and garlic
In Hwanghae-do: not salty nor blend, using pickled sand eel or pickled shrimp
In Gangwon-do: tastes refreshing, using raw squid or dried fish
In Jeolla-do: tastes deep, using seafood, peppers, and pickled anchovy
In Hamgyeong-do: use lots of seafood. In some mountainous area, they put pork into Kimchi
In Pyeong ando: less peppers but add oil-free beef soup
In Jeju-do: less sauce, use lots of salty seafood
Because every Kimchi tastes different, I'd like to taste each of them as I travel Korea

It's explaining about a pottery which plays an important role for Kimchi
It was sad to see not so many people were there even though it's well established
Salting cabbage is exhibited as cabbage and salt miniature.
It was impressing to see lots of activities prepared for children in the middle of exhibition.
You can enjoy percussion performances here!
Just like NANTA, in the process of making Kimchi, you could use the sounds made by tools to perform.
This is the most beloved place for children.
Unlike the previous exhibition where not many audience were there, here it was full of crowds.
Museums could be sometimes boring, Kimchi museum added fun activities to derive interests.
Here we can learn about the recipes of Kimchi.
Each chairs has its own dish made with Kimchi and you can listen to it when you sit!
After you look around the museum, there is a multipurpose hall at the end.
You legs might be tired if you were walking around for too long, you can rest a bit here!
Next to the multipurpose hall, Kimchi refrigerators are exhibited.
There is bathroom and water fountain is right next to it.
Fourth, there is Kimchi Experience Center in 2nd floor.
Kimchi Experience Center is where you, children, teenagers, and adults can try making Kimchi.
You can request for the experience by visiting website or making a call and you can make different kinds of Kimchi.
Unfortunately, the door was shut when we visited.

You can see the office of Kimchi town at the entrance after you get off from the bus.
You can rent a wheelchair or a stroller from here!
In 1st floor at the entrance of Kimchi path, there is Dumae Kimchi Club.
This is Kimchi buffet!
It is 5,000 won for 1 person and it’s open from 11:30 to 13:00.
Because it is a buffet, there could be a change with the menu.
At Kimchi town, there are many bathrooms at different places.
It also has a toilet for disabled.

You can rent bikes for free!
It is available from 9:00 to 18:00 every day.
After you ride it, return to the same spot, okay?
Remember that you can rent after you register.
There are lots of options of bikes.
At across, there is International Kimchi Laboratory, it is not open to the public.

In the Kimchi town complex, there are ecological spaces here and there.
For insects, butterflies and birds, they provide bird house made of pile of stones and branches and planted flowers and trees.

Resting at the pavilion after playing basketball sounds good!
I thought it would be nice for a family picnic.
As you take a walk, you can find paintings on the wall here and there.
It is quite fun to look at them.
The parking lot is large, so visit with no worries.
