[Seo_Gu/Attraction] Pungam Lake Park

Pungam Lake Park

I introduce you Soegu palgyung Pungam Lake Park, which is surrounded by Mt. Geumdang, known as Gwanju’s renowned lake, and it’s famous for its rose garden!

A resting place in the midst of the city!

01 |Visit
Pungam Lake Park has two gate, one near Pungam dong and the other one near Geumho dong.

I entered through the Geumho dong trail!
I can see the Pungam Lake as I enter the gate.

Did you know that Pungam Lake was originally a dam?
In 1999, through the pilot project, the dam was renovated as a park and became a marvelous lake~
I arrived just in time to see the sunset!
The wind blowing from the lake was very fresh and the scenery of the lake under the sunset was very beautiful~
If you walk along the trail...

 You can see awesome statues!
This statue is a symbol (Harmony) of Pungam Lake Park
It represents Gwanju’s light and man’s energy with vibrant shape that harmonize to accept light. Sculptor Si young Jin sculptured the Statue.
You can say that the authentic part of the trail begins after the statue.
The trail surrounds the lake, so you can walk along the trail~
Many are visiting the park, because the trail is made of eco – friendly Masato instead of polyurethane!
Pungam Lake is beloved as one of the beautiful Seogu 8 gyeong.
I can see why it became one of the Soegu8gyoeng after I walked along the trail.
The scenery was marvelous just by sitting by the lake.
I saw a bridge as I viewed the scenery of the lake!
Pungam Lake Park has three wooden bridges.
What I saw was the first wooden bridge.
There was a sign that showed the distance of the bridge!
From the statue, I walked 700m until now.
Pungam Lake Park has 2.2km of trail
It would be good to take note of these signs.

There’s also a fountain after crossing the bridge.

*Fountain Operation Hours*
10:00am~ 10:30am
03:00pm~ 03:30pm
08:00pm~ 09:00pm
At night you’ll be able to see a fountain show~
Colorful lights are turned on at night
So the night view is a completely different experience!
I would certainly like to visit again!
Past the 1st Wooden Bridge reveals 2 paths,
To your left leads to the rose fields, and your right continues your nature trail.
I suggest visiting the rose fields first
And exiting to the path on your right at the end and continuing on with your nature trail!
 I first visited the Rose fields;
The rose field is arranged by the shape of a rose and its leaves,
And it boasts a total of 5,640 square meters in area and 140 different
Species of roses!
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to see the rose fields due to change of season,
But during May through June, there are rose festivals
and you can visit the rose fields for a great view until August!
 This is the rose garden.
It’s beautiful as watercolor painting~
I would like to visit again during the festival period
If you turn right after visiting rose garden, you can continue on to the lake trail.
Along the way you could get a glimpse of ducks and geese in the lake
Geese swarms in lake is always a cool sight to see
There’s also a tunnels covered by flowers on the trail.
It’s famous for the best photo zone in Pungam Lake Park.
Unfotunately, I couldn’t see it, because they were still constructing.

I can see the second wooden bridge.
There are tortoises under the bridge!
People sometimes feed them snacks.
But remember never feed them human food!

I could see the third wooden bridge after walking few minutes.
The third bridge is the longest among the three bridges.
Personally, I think this is the best location to get a good view of the lake!
After crossing the third bridge, it’s been 1.9km from the statue.
I took pictures and observed scenery of the lake
I don’t think it took long to cross
If you cross the third bridge, you can see the mid park trail
It’s about 700 meters, so I think it’s also a good idea to have a walk along the trail
Next to the nature trail were rocking chairs
All the kids seem to love it!

Next to the rocking chairs was a library!
The books in this library have all been donated by Gwangju citizens
The benches look like a great place to get a read!
The trail is about to end after the library
This is a park’s environmental pond

There’s a ecological experience plays in the pond, so I think it’s good to come with children.

There’s also a traditional Korean summerhouse the pond (joengja) called Hengbokjoeng.
Gwangju citizens often come here to relax.
The Haeng Bok Jung marks the end of the nature trail!
I took the time to sit and enjoy this place before I left
Being off my daily busy schedules gave me time to relax and calm my mind
